Pediasia fascelinella

(Hübner, [1813])

Wingspan 24-30mm.

This very local moth inhabits coastal sand dunes in Norfolk and Suffolk, with a few scattered records elsewhere. Adults can be found from early June until late August and are easily flushed during the day, although they fly naturally at night and will come to light. It's a distinctive moth, which is unlikely to be confused with other species.

The larvae feed within the roots of various sandhill grasses, living within a silken tube or tent.
