Phyllonorycter nigrescentella - Distribution map

Please note that the NBN Gateway map service has been terminated as of 1 April 2017.

As soon as a replacement map service is available, distribution maps will hopefully appear here again.

In the meantime, you can get some idea of distribution from the NBN Atlas website.

Phyllonorycter nigrescentella

(Logan, 1851)

Wingspan 7-9mm.

A very local species in the South-west and South-east of England but commoner in the north of England and Ireland.

The larvae mine the underside of leaves of Vicia sepium (Bush Vetch) occupying the whole of the leaf and causing it to curl over. Mines can be found from July to September usually on plants growing in hedgerows.

Adults fly in two generations during April/May and August/September and are similar to several other Phyllonorycter species.
