Please note that the NBN Gateway map service has been terminated as of 1 April 2017.

As soon as a replacement map service is available, distribution maps will hopefully appear here again.

In the meantime, you can get some idea of distribution from the NBN Atlas website.

Pale Shining Brown Polia bombycina

(Hufnagel, 1766)

Wingspan 43-52 mm.

Formerly more widespread, this species is retracting its range and is now mostly found in south-eastern England. Occasional coastal records are thought to be migrants.

The adults fly in June and July, when they will visit light, sugar and various flowers.

The species prefers calcareous soils, but the life history is imperfectly known, though the larvae are thought to be polyphagous.
