Prolita sexpunctella

(Fabricius, 1794)

Wingspan c.17 mm.

Distributed from Wales through northern England and into much of Scotland, this is a species of heather moorland and occurs up to quite high altitudes.

The adults fly in sunshine over the moors during May and June.

The larvae feed on the leaves of heather (Calluna), from August spinning them together and overwintering within.
