Wingspan c.4-6 mm.
A somewhat local species, occurring in the south-eastern counties of England, ranging north to Cumbria.
The larvae feed on a number of rose Rosa species, including cultivated ones, and create a gallery mine similar to that of S. anomalella, though the central frass line is generally narrower with clearer margins.
There are two generations, producing adults in April/May and July/August, and larvae in June/July and again from September, sometimes to December.
