Distributed mainly in the southern parts of England and Wales, this species does range to northern England, but becomes scarcer northwards. It frequents rough grassland and dry pastures, generally near the coast.

Adult moths fly in July, when they can be attracted to light. When viewed closely, minute black streaks can be seen along the edge of the costa.

The larvae feed in a spinning on the flowerheads of yarrow (Achillea millefolium), field wormwood (Artemisia campestris) and stinking camomile (Anthemis cotula).
