Scarce Tufted Scallop

Wingspan c. 20mm.

In the late 19th century, this species was resident, though scarce, in Dorset and Herefordshire. However it has not been seen in the British Isles since 1886.

The adults emerge from August and overwinter until the following spring.

Larval foodplants include apple (Malus) and hawthorn (Crataegus), the caterpillars spinning a slight web on the leaf surface.
