Zophodia grossulariella

(Hübner, [1809])

Wingspan 25-36mm.

This is a large pyrale with a distinctive black-bordered first band on the forewing.

The foodplant is gooseberry (Ribes ura-crispa), the larva feeding on the unripe berries.

The species is known throughout Europe but in Britain is a rare visitor. It was first found in Kent in 1982 and has since been noted in Norfolk.
